I AM that I AM



"I AM that I AM." This is God's reply to Moses when he asked, “Who should I say sent me?” (Exodus 3:14)

Are you open to the possibility that God is actively present in the world today? If so, how would you know? What if the phrase “I am” directs you to this reality?

How are your "I am" statements an opportunity to embrace God's Presence?


Here are a few examples.

  • I am confused, but you LORD God are the All Knowing One.

Blessed are you, LORD God, the All Knowing One.

  • I am angry, but you LORD God are the Angry One.

Blessed are you, LORD God, the Angry One.

  • I am hurt, but you LORD God are the Healer.

Blessed are you, LORD God, the Healer.

  • I am thirsty, but you LORD God are the Living Water.

Blessed are you, LORD God, the Living Water.


Now it is your turn to practice the skill of Faith Listening. Faith Listening is the learned ability that awakens you to God's Life, blesses God's Name, and celebrates God's Presence.

  1. Consider your "I am" statements. I am ________________________________________.

  2. Complete this statement with the phrase "But, you LORD God are _________________.

  3. Convert God's Name into a Blessing Prayer: Blessed are you, LORD God, ___________.

  4. Connect with God by repeating this Blessing Prayer three to seven times as you inhale "Blessed are you, LORD God," and exhale "God's Name."
